About Gil

Gil has been creating art since they were a child, when they enjoyed graphite and comic making. As a teen, they picked up digital illustration, before taking a break from art until their 20s. In their late 20s they discoverd ink, and connected with the bold values of the medium. Currently Gil focuses on ink and collage.

Gil lives and creates on land covered by the Between the Lakes Treaty (Treaty 3) on Turtle Island, where Indigenous peoples have been making art for thousands of years. Artistic practice is tied irrevocably place. It is artists' and art lovers' responsibility to learn the histories of peoples and art that inform our opportunities to practice. We must confront what art has been in turn denied, destroyed, and celebrated under colonial projects on Turtle Island.
